My Day at the Museum
As we arrived at the Horniman Museum we gazed in wonder at how beautiful it was.
First we sketched the outside of the museum which was absolutely great fun. When we had finished drawing it, we made our way inside. We entered the porch where we saw some lovely artefacts.
The first room we made our way into was the Natural History Room. It was absolutely dumbfounding. We saw some fossils and dead animals which were stuffed and covered with fur to make them look realistic.
We saw monkeys, bugs, butterflies, moths, birds and snakes, but the biggest of them all was a stuffed walrus- it weighed over 3900kg. We approached the bees, there were trillions of them, and we could see them through a glass box. It was a fantastic room.
The second room we went into was the West African Room, which was all about Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Our eyes were caught by the African clothes which were surprising. We saw some clothes worn by men at wedding ceremonies and baptisms. It was very big and beautiful. We saw a beautiful woman’s dress, which they could wear on any ordinary day.
We then went to the music room and we saw a massive drum. It had lots of wonderful patterns on it, it was astounding. We felt amazed when we saw the African objects. We liked the dance clothes the most because they had lots of features, like masks which were carved carefully to show the detail.
We were so happy that we went to the Horniman Museum because we learned more about our family’s countries and their traditions.
